Answer

We have a variety of resources that have information on the empathy/empathetic listing question.

If you just want a definition, as from a dictionary, you can go to Credo Reference (listed on the Find Books page).  This resources contains over 600 reference books, including dictionaries on a variety of topics, encyclopedias, and more specific reference works.  Type in your search terms and you can get definitions from a variety of resources to start you on your search.

If you need more illustrative examples, you may want to search for journal articles by linking into them directly via the Find Articles page.  Depending on how specific you wish to get, you can search in ProQuest Central (a broad-topic, interdisciplinary database), or if you wanted more specific to psychology or counseling you could go into PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO database, which is focused specifically on psychology topics.  In either of these databases you can do a keyword search by typing in terms as you would a Google or Bing search, but if you wanted to be sure to get a phrase search (two or more words next to one another) you can do a search with multiple words within quotes.  In ProQuest Central, a quick search for just the words empathetic listening came up with 7113 results (limit to full text and it's 6066, full text and peer reviewed is 1796).  The corresponding search using quotes, "empathetic listening" came up with 650, 544, and 159 results respectively, so you can see it is a much more specific search.  You would find similar breakdowns using the PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO database.

We don't appear to have any online videos about this particular topic specifically, but if you go into the Counseling and Therapy in Video collection via the Find Videos page, you can search for empathetic listening and find that there are a few videos that use both of those words but not as a phrase.  If you click on "transcripts" on the result list (I found 6 results there) you can see the title of the videos that use both words and they pull-out snips of the transcript to show some of the words around the words you had searched for.

I hope this helps get you started!
