Hi Nancy,

There are a couple databases that would be useful for your question.  You can access these databases by going to the Online Library --> Find Articles and More --> and then clicking on the name of the database (databases are listed alphabetically):

  • PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO
  • Psychology Journals
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection

In each of these databases, you are going to want to click on the "Advanced Search" option.  Some good search terms to find the definition of superstion would be:

superstition* AND definition*

Make sure you enter your terms exactly as listed above with the *.  The * will bring back superstition and superstitions.  You will also want to separate your terms onto separte lines in your advanced search (superstition* on the first line, definition* on the second line).

To find articles about the relationship between superstition and operant conditioning, a good search would be:

superstition* AND "operant conditioning"

Again, make sure you enter your search terms as listed above.  The quotation marks will bring back the exact phrase, "operant conditioning."  You will also want to separate the terms out onto separate lines in your advanced search.

You may also want to check the full text box in the advanced search to bring back only records that have the full text article attached.  If you need scholarly or peer reviewed articles for your paper, you can also check off the peer reviewed box on the advanced search.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!
