Q. Hello. How can I find out about SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis (for higher education) presentation ideas

Need to find PowerPoint presentation ideas for an onlne course, Strategic Planning.

Answer

There are a variety of good databases that may have information on SWOT analyses and their use.  I went to the ProQuest Central database (a great interdisciplinary database) and went to the Advanced Search area.  I looked for full text and peer reviewed articles using the term "SWOT analysis" and changed from "All fields + text " (the default search) to "Subject heading (all) -- SU to limit articles only to those about SWOT analysis.  This gave me a few articles about SWOT analyses and how they are used.  There are also a lot of books in ebrary about the SWOT analysis and its use and usefulness in businesses (nothing with that title or exact subject heading, but items on strategic planning, managing, etc., with information on the use of the SWOT analysis in business).

As for tying that to higher education and presentation ideas, you would probably have to search for articles on your desired specific topic and look for information that fulfills the specific aspects of the SWOT analysis.  What are the strengths of [your topic] as reported in the literature?  What are the weaknesses?  What are the recognized opportunities related to your topic?  What are the threats?  If you had a particular topic or type of business or business practice, there would likely be articles about those (but that don't refer specifically to the SWOT - you may have to plug in the data from your found resources into that format).  Databases specific to business topics include ABI/INFORM Global (that one includes all of the ABI/INFORM databases), Business Source Elite, as well as the more general databases of ProQuest Central and Academic Search Elite.  All are linked on the Find Articles page in the Online Library.  (Searching them directly gives you greater ability to modify your searches than by using the Quick Search.)
