I am trying to find scholarly journal articles that address entrance exams and for-profit education.

Answer

On the library homepage, click on FIND NOW under Find Articles. On the Find Articles & more page, you may want to search in one or more of the following databases:

  • Academic Search Elite (EBSCO)
  • Education Journals (ProQuest)
  • ERIC (ProQuest)
  • Social Science Journals (ProQuest)

All of these databases allow you to limit to peer reviewed/scholarly journals. The Advanced Search screen for the ProQuest databases will have the most options. Academic Search Elite from EBSCO opens by default to the Advanced Search.

Some search terms to use may be:

for-profit schools AND entrance examinations

for-profit schools  AND college entrance examinations

proprietary schools AND college entrance examinations

For background and news on entrance exams and for profit education (not peer reviewed articles though they can lead you to scholarly research), search in the Chronicle of Higher Education (also on the Find Articles & More page).
