What is Boolean logic?

I am a doctoral student @ Argosy on-line

Answer

Boolean Logic is a system of logic developed by George Boole (1815-1864). When searching in databases or with a web search engine, we can use Boolean Logic to combine words or phrases. The Boolean operators are AND, OR and NOT (sometimes expressed as AND NOT).

AND narrows or limits the results by adding two or more terms together requiring results to have all terms.

OR broadens or expands the results by requiring items to only have one of the terms or all of the terms.

NOT will exclude a search term from all results. NOT can substantially reduce results and may cause you to miss out on valuable research. Use caution when using NOT.
