Q. troubled youth lack of guidance
For your question, there are several databaes I would recommend. They are accessible from the Online Library website under "Find Articles" where they are listed alphabetically.
A good place to start your research might be SIRS Issues Researcher. From this database, you can look at various topics such as "Teenage Pregnancy" and "Underage Drinking," to help limit your topic for your research.
To get scholoarly articles, databases I would recommend trying would be:
- ProQuest Central
- PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO
- Psychology Journals (ProQuest)
If your assignment says that you need scholarly or peer-reviewed articles, there is a box you can check in the Advanced Search screen that says "Peer-reviewed articles." You may also want to check the box that says "Full Text," to ensure you only get articles that you can read the full article text for.
Some search terms that might be useful for you would be:
"at-risk youth" AND "parent and child"
"at-risk youth" AND "parenting attitudes"
"juvenile delinquen*" AND parent* [using a * at the end of a word is called a "wild card." By searching parent* results will bring up parents, parenting, and parental]
"underage drinking" AND "parenting styles"
You will want to set up your search terms like in this screenshot. You also may want to select "Subject Heading (all) - SU" from the dropdown menu for terms such as "at-risk youth" and "juvenile delinquen*":
