I'm looking for an journal with articles about social work with disabled adults as a career?

I will be working in the human service/social work for disabled adults. I need a journal article that will help me write a paper about my career choice.

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for contacting the Online Library.

To find journals related to social work, I would recommend using the A-Z of Online Journals.  You can find the A-Z of Online Journals linked to on the right hand side of the Online Library homepage, under Featured Resources.  From there, I would recommend scrolling down to where it says Browse by Discipline then selecting Social Work (listed alphabetically in the list of disciplines).  This will bring back a list of journal titles that cover the topic of social work.  You can search within any of these journals by clicking on the links to the databases below the journal titles.

To find articles specifically on working with disabled adults as a career, I would recommend the following databases:

  • ProQuest Central
  • All EBSCO

You can find both of these databases listed under the Find Articles and More button in the Online Library.  I would recommend using the advanced search in both of these databases. For search terms, I would recommend:

  • disabilities AND "social work"
  • disabled AND "social work"
  • disabilities AND "human services"

You will want to mix and match the search terms as well. Be sure you enter your search terms as I have listed them above.  The quotation marks will bring back the exact phrase.  I would recommend checking the box for full text to only bring back records with the full text articles attached.  If you need scholarly or peer-reviewed articles, you will want to check the box for peer-reviewed as well.
