What is the best way to search in order to determine if guided reading can be considered differentiated instruction? Thanks

I am in the midst of my qualitative research study. I am encountering many individuals who believe that they are differentiating instruction through the use of Reader's Workshop (guided reading groups).I am very familiar with guided reading & differentiated instruction on separate levels. What I am trying to determine is whether or not Carol Ann Tomlinson's definition of differentiated instruction really works with the guided reading concept. Any help that you can suggest would be appreciated. I need resources that address both areas in tandem.
