How do I access the AERA database, and how do I find journal articles on blacklisting educators?

I am doing a qualitative studyon teachers who have been asking if they have been blacklisted from teaching or if a blacklist exist, how can one access it?

Answer

Thanks for contacting the Library.

AERA has many publications that are for members only, but they also have an open-access database called AERA Open.  Here is the link: http://ero.sagepub.com/

To find journal articles about blacklisting educators in the Library databases, go to the home page of the Library via the Campus Common.  In the Library Search bar, enter blacklist and teacher.  (This seemed to work better than blacklist and educator.)

The results will appear on the next page.  You will need to scan the titles and abstracts to find articles related to your topic.  Some of them will be relevant, others not so much.  You can check the subject headings associated with articles that are relevant to you and then use those for additional searches, such as political aspects, teacher dismissal, etc.

I hope this information helps.  Please let us know if we can assist further.
