Should libraries have a list of banned books?
trying to find information for a debatable topic.
Answer
Thank you for contacting the library. To conduct an initial search on your topic, I recommend the following:
- Navigate to the Online Library home page
- Click Find Articles and more
- Scroll down and click on Points of View Reference Center (EBSCO)
- On the homepage of the database, scroll down to the Browse by Category section. Underneath Censorship, you will find a link for Banning Books.
- Visit the Banning Books page for an overview of the topic, points of view, counterpoints, and analysis, along with links to articles from magazines, academic journals, books, and more.
If you need further information, you can search other databases from the library homepage,
- Click Find Articles and more.
- Click on ProQuest Central or All EBSCO at the top of the page.
- To begin, try using the following search terms:
- libraries AND banned books
- libraries AND banned books AND list
- On the next screen, you will see many results.
- You can also narrow by subject and other limiters on the left side of the screen by selecting any of those suggested. They may help guide you in your search. You may want to consider limiting the Document Type to editorial or commentary for others' views on debatable topics.
After reviewing various articles and others' points of view, you can use the information to form your own opinion on the debate question.
Please let us know if we can assist further.
Sincerely,
Argosy University Library
